Structure Funding

The structure projects program aims to establish sustainable professional structures and framework conditions in the field of popular music and jazz in Germany. The program supports transformation processes as well as discourse and networking within the music industry. In addition, in close cooperation with the states and municipalities, the program seeks to develop, establish, and strengthen regional and state-specific funding organizations and networks for popular music and jazz.

The funding program focuses equally on dialogue-based networking events—such as conferences and conventions for the music industry—as well as on professional development opportunities for all stakeholders in pop, jazz, and live music culture, e.g., through workshop series and mentoring programs. Scientific studies and evaluations on pop culture and the music industry in Germany are also eligible for funding.

With the Festival Support Fund, structured funding at the federal level for music festivals in the fields of popular music and jazz has been available for the first time since 2023. The goal of the funding program is to support the culturally significant work of festivals, promote artistic diversity and development, and strengthen artistic freedom. Festivals can apply for funding through an open application process.
The fourth round of funding focuses on the festivals’ musical program and overall curatorial concept. Particular consideration is given to the artistic quality of the programming, the promotion of emerging musicians, the inclusion of groups underrepresented in the music industry, and the support and integration of regional structures. In addition, funding may be provided for initiatives in areas such as inclusion, integration, participation, and accessibility; sustainability; cultural side programs and educational formats; the promotion of democracy; and networking and partnerships with other festivals.
The program is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized music festivals, as well as festivals located outside major metropolitan areas. At least 70 percent of the selected festivals are to take place in non-urban areas—in rural counties and small towns with up to 100,000 residents. At least 95 percent of the funding budget is to be allocated to small and medium-sized festivals with up to 15,000 attendees.

Funding is provided as a percentage of the total costs and covers up to 70 percent of the recognized eligible project expenses. The grant amount ranges from 10,000 to 50,000 euros and is capped at the actual funding gap for the entire festival project.
