  • 13 newcomers and 21 festivals from Germany are part of the European programme ESNS Exchange.
  • Initiative Musik supports 5 solo artists and bands with grants for video productions as part of the international tour funding (streaming).
  • ESNS Digital Festival and Conference, January 19-22, 2022

Berlin, January 12, 2022

Initiative Musik is supporting the shows of 13 up-and-coming acts from Germany at Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS), including the rock band Slope from Dortmund, the Berlin-based singer and songwriter K.ZIA and the Leipzig-based electropop act Zouj. In its role as an export office, Initiative Musik acts as the official German representation at ESNS Exchange, supporting musicians and festivals in making international connections.

The European Showcase Festival takes place every year in January in Groningen, the Netherlands. For the second time ESNS will have to take place as a purely digital event instead of the usual live performances in clubs, due to the pandemic. "The starting shot of the live music year 2022 will again be different from what we would all wish for. It’s remains very important in these challenging times to bring the people of the live music sector, artists, venues & festivals and media together during the digital edition of the ESNS. ESNS is proud to present 13 new and upcoming artists from Germany in close cooperation with our central German partner Initiative Musik," explains Robert Meijerink, ESNS programme director.

Neus López, Head of Export at the Initiative Musik: "Platforms like the ESNS are essential for music export. They offer newcomers a stage to present their music to an international audience of experts. Of course, it is a pity that the ESNS can only take place digitally this year. This makes it all the more important that the showcases will still be realised. They create excellent prospects for the participating bands to get booked for festival in the summer, as all participating festivals can receive grants for European newcomers via the EU programme ESNS Exchange - formerly called ETEP, European Talent Exchange Programme."

As a B2B and showcase event, the ESNS thus offers the performing bands and their management outstanding opportunities to acquire international gigs. For the participating festivals, the ESNS Exchange funding programme creates a strong incentive to book European newcomers. The ESNS Exchange programme is organised by the Noorderslag Foundation and BUMA Cultuur and involves 130 European festivals, 21 of them from Germany, who want to discover and book new artists for their line-up through the showcase event.

As part of the International Tour Funding (Streaming Extension), the following five bands will receive grants from the Initiative Musik for the production of their digital shows: Moritz Fasbender (Leipzig), K.ZIA (Berlin), Scotch & Water (Hamburg), Slope (Dortmund) and Zouj (Leipzig).

The project funds for the participation of Initiative Musik in ESNS Exchange and the International Tour Grant are provided through the budget of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).
